Spanglish
Spanglish is the name that gives itself to language that appears joining the English of USA with the language of the Latin-Americans. Spanglish is the better known in the south of Florida. Though it is also very much used in places like Mexico, New York, etc…
A Few11 of the principal fountains of propagation oh this language are, the movies, and the music’s. Was Salvador Tió who invented an other term, but this one call of “Inglanhol”, had not so much success.
The movie:
It is called “Spanglish” and is a Mexican maid who decides to go the USA with his daughter, in search of new opportunities. While arriving, the Mexican feels the typical ansietyd to learn to speak English.

Father Christmas
Father Christmas is a name used in many English speaking countries, for the gift-bringing figure of Christmas. The same figure with the same name exists in other countries (in that country's language), such as France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Romania (Romance countries). The character is similar to, and in some places such as Australia and the UK, interchangeable with Santa Claus. Although "Father Christmas" and "Santa Claus" have for all practical purposes been merged, historically the characters were different.
The symbolic personification of Christmas as a merry old figure begins in the early 17th century, in the context of resistance to Puritan criticism of observation of the Christmas feast. He is "old" because of the antiquity of the feast itself, which its defenders saw as a good old Christian custom that should be kept. Allegory was popular at the time, and so "old Christmas" was given a voice to protest his exclusion, along with the form of a rambunctious, jolly old man.

Lost in Translation is a 2003 comedy-drama film starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. It was the second feature film written and directed by Sofia Coppola, after The Virgin Suicides. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Bill Murray, and Best Director for Sofia Coppola. Coppola won Best Original Screenplay.
The film explores themes of loneliness, alienation, and culture shock against the background of the modern Japanese cityscape.
Aging movie star Bob Harris (Bill Murray) has arrived in Tokyo to film a Suntory whisky advertisement (a reference to real-life Hollywood actors who do foreign celebrity advertising, including Sofia Coppola's father, Francis Ford Coppola, who did Suntory commercials with Akira Kurosawa during the filming of Kagemusha
Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) is the young wife of a celebrity photographer on assignment in Tokyo. Left behind by her husband when he goes to his photo shoots, she is unsure of her present and her future and about the man she has married. Bob's relationship with his wife of 25 years is clearly tired and lacking in romance, as revealed in his telephone calls back to the US. Bob and Charlotte, both lonely and aimless, meet in the bar of the hotel where they are both staying and strike up a friendship. The two explore Tokyo together, experiencing the differences between Japanese and American culture. The two grow close through their adventures and the time they spend together when neither can sleep.
On the penultimate night of his stay, Bob attracts the attention of the resident vocalist of the hotel bar. The next morning, Bob awakens to find this woman in his room and Charlotte waiting for him. The pair have a brief conflict when they later meet at a restaurant, seemingly over Bob's sleeping with this other woman. Later that night, during a fire alarm, they reconcile and express how they will miss each other.
On the morning of his departure, as Bob is in his taxi to the airport, he sees Charlotte on a crowded street. He asks his driver to stop, gets out, and pursues Charlotte. When he reaches her, the two face each other for a long moment and then embrace. Bob whispers something in the tearful Charlotte's ear, kisses her, and then departs.

Forever and Ever
Once upon a time there was a princess called Elisabeth.
She was blond with beautiful blue eyes and a wonderful voice.
She loved singing all morning in the garden of her enormous castle.
Everyone felt happy when she sang all day at the same hour, next to the lake.
One day, a prince from a very distant conutry heard about her beautiful voice and immediately wanted to know her. When he was almost a near the castle, he heartd something like angels singing in the stay, and asked himself:
- Prince Philip : Good Lord, I didn’t know that in the suburbs something like this could exist!
The princess was in the garden singing to the birds, when suddenly the princess entered the gare and...He saw her and she saw him... And CLICK!.. LOVE IS IN THE AIR!!
It was love at the first sight, but when they were appoaching themselfs, to ask at least te name...someone appeared.
The old king came to the garden because his daughter wasn’t singing anymore.
- King : Elisabeth, what are you doing? I said that I don’t want you.
- Elisabeth : I was just singing and someone, someone just appeared...
- Prince Philip : Please, your majest, don’t argue with her. She isn’t guilty. I just heard about someone who had a beautiful voice and I felt very curiuos and wanted to know who was able to sing like the angels.
- King : Go away! We don’t want you here.
- Princess Elisabeth : But daddy...What were we doing?
- Prince Philip : We weren’t doing anything wrong sdir!
- King : Guards! Guards take him away, immediately. Elisabeth to the Tower, right now!!
The Princess kept prisioner in the higgest Tower of the castle and every night she Mought with the beautiful princess.
The prince never forgot her beautiful eyes and began thinking in away of let her free. Free to love him, free to live together.
So...one night, there was a beautiful shinning moon, with a lot of beautiful stars, and the prince came next to the Tower.
The Princess was crying, because she was feeling herself very lonely and unhappy.
- Princess Elisabeth : Who’s there?
- Prince Philip : It’s me, Philip. I came to rescue you from prison.
- Princess Elisabeth : The Tower is so high, I can’t jump from here, I’m afraid...Sorry! I can’t.
- Prince Philip : Elisabeth, do you believe in me?
- Prince Elisabeth : I believe you, from all my heart.
- Prince Philip : So, close your eyes and...think you’re a bird a very beautiful bird, and...fly! To fly away, through the night, through the sky, to the moon.
Then, the princess closed her eyes and felt herself in the sky, flying, flying away...away from her prison.
She could even feel the wind, on her face...
- Prince Philip : Now, open your eyes, my Princess!
And then she was, next to the prince, she came though the sky, helped by a goog fairy, who was a “Lovers Guardian”.
She promised his mother to love him and protect him forever, so she helped the two lovers and they could be happy forever and ever.

The Comenius Projects
The Comenius Projects are European projects set out every year in the attempt to bring European students, from various different countries, together. Various projects are assigned in an attempt to help the European students get a better understanding of their own country as well as the other countries involved in the project. Some previous projects include making board games about the various different countries, or a newspaper on moving borders within the countries. Students aged between 14 - 19 are welcome to join the project. In England, the project is more commonly available to 6th formers. Every year, a new project begins, and every year there are two meetings.
Funding for the project is a difficult issue, although is usually successful. In order to get funding for the project from the EU - which will mean free flights, accommodation, meals, living costs, tourist visits, transport, etc - the countries involved in the project must all submit a project proposal and three of those proposals must be accepted in order to get funding. Without funding, many issues arise, mainly because teachers and students have to pay for everything by themselves, which can result in some countries not being able to attend the meetings.
The first meeting is specified for coordinators - two or three students chosen from each country - are sent to the designated country of the meeting - of which the location varies every year, and usually occurs in the winter/autumn seasons of the year. This meeting allows for the confident or experienced students to meet and discuss a blueprint for the project together. The idea of this meeting is to signify the beginning of a new project and allows the coordinators to then return home and feedback to the other students about the project and the people.

Elidor
Once upon a time there was a boy in Wales, called Elidor. He didn’t like school and he didn’t work very hard. When he learnt one thing, he forgot another. The teacher was angry and beat him with a stick, but he learnt nothing.
One day Elidor was so unhappy that he ran away! Elidor ran down to the river. He knew the river very well. He knew all the best places to hide. Elidor hid by the bank of the river. Nobody could find him there.
He thought, “ I’ll stay here until teatime. They will look for me. They will be very worried and they will be sorry, really sorry, because they were so unkind to me. “
The evening came and it began to grow dark. Elidor stayed by the bank above the river. “I won’t go home tonight. I’ll stay here all night. They will be really worried.”
Elidor stayed all night and all the next day. Then he decided to stay the next night as well and all the next day! He stayed there for two days and nights. During the third evening two days and nights. During the third evening two little men came to him. They were very small, only the height of Elidor’s knee!
“What are you doing here?” they asked him.
Elidor told them how unhappy he was because the teachers beat him.
“Oh, in our land children are always happy and nobody beats them. Why don’t you come with us?”
So Elidor agreed to go with them. The tow littler men walked along the bank of the river until they came to a large hole. They walked into the hole and Elidor followed them; he crawled on his hands and knees. Elidor crawled for a long way. At last he saw some light ahead of him and then he came out into new land of fields and trees and hills. There were corn-fields and farmers were cutting the corn. The farmers were the same size as the two little men who were with Elidor. The farmers’ horses were as big as dogs. The two little men took Elidor to the king’s palace. The king was very kind, “of course you can stay in my land. And you can play with my son, the prince. “
Elidor played with the prince; they played with a golden ball.
At last Elidor wanted to go home to see his mother. “of course you can go, Elidor!” said the king. “you can come and go as you wish.”
So Elidor went across the fields and through the hole, to the river and then home to his mother. She was very pleased to see him.
After some time Elidor went back again to the land of the small people to play with the prince. He often went to the land of the little people.
Elidor told his mother about that world and all the gold that was there.
“Oh, Elidor, you Know we are very poor. Bring some gold black with you next time”. Elidor didn’t want to take any gold from the little people but he wanted to help his mother.
The next time he played with the prince he took the golden ball and ran across the fields. The two little men ran after him, “Elidor, come back. Come back! Don’t take the golden ball.”
Elidor ran across the fields, through the hole, to the river and back home. The two little men ran after him. Elidor opened his mother’s door and he feel into the kitchen. He dropped the ball and the two little men shouted “Elidor!”. They took the ball and then ran away and down to the river.
Elidor ran after them but he could not catch them. He went to the river but he could not find the hole! He looked and he looked for hours but he could not find it anywhere.
Elidor came the next day and the next but he could not find the hole. He never found it again.
Many years later, when Elidor was an old man, people sometimes asked him about the land of the little people. Tears came to his eyes when he remembered what he had done and what he had lost.

Our Blog!
We are a Portuguese group of students. We've been studying English for ate least six years. This blog is an original idea of our English teacher Maria Isabel Ramalho. Who is also the advisor of this project. The activity consists in writing texts about any subject that we find interesting for all school community. On the other hand, it has halso a technological slope. We are thinking in doing some activities so that readers can participe too.
